(2011 Archive) Online Modules

Welcome to the FRLP Online Modules!  We hope that you will explore this learning opportunity to build your foundation knowledge and skills during your development and practice as a researcher at ANU.

There are nine online modules currently on offer.  They are listed in the menu on the left; a description of each module and its aims and outcomes can be found within each module topic linked off the menu on the left.  Instructions for accessing the modules are also provided.

About the online module content

  • The online modules were developed though a collaboration between the Group of Eight (Go8) universities, with each university leading the development of a module.  While the modules have generic information applicable to all Go8 universities, each university delivers FRLP differently.  In 2011 ANU will explore a different format in order to encourage wider uptake of knowledge and skills across all those involved with the research enterprise at ANU.
  •  The modules can be studied in any order.  You may however find that some aspects of a particular topic are introduced in greater detail or with more extensive background in other modules on offer. (The contents page at the beginning of each module can provide this overview.)
  • The module content may refer to activities to be conducted in a workshop format or may suggest preparatory activities for a related workshop.  At ANU during 2011, we will be experimenting with a different format for the workshops.  While there may be some workshops that directly link to the content of one or more online modules, the ANU workshops will be aimed at complimenting the online learning with new information and shared stories.  Therefore while you may find it valuable to undertake the activities recommended in each module, these activities may not be referred to in the workshops.  See the workshops section for more details.

All the online modules have generic information beneficial to all researchers and research managers at the ANU, including PhD students.  However some of the module content has a degree of "assumed knowledge", and may therefore address issues familiar to more experienced researchers and practitioners.  For example, researchers who have previous experience with applying for research grants or are currently managing research projects will enjoy some of the specific knowledge and tools provided in these modules.

The FRLP online modules are a free service to all students and staff at ANU involved with research and the University's research enterprise. (A current ANU ID number and password will be required for registration and access.)
