(2011 Archive) FAQ

The FAQ section contains some of the most common questions about FRLP and how to access it.  New questions will be added to this list as they arise from interested participants.

List of questions:

What does it cost?

FRLP at ANU is a free program to all current ANU research students and research associated staff (both academic and professional/general staff).

What are the benefits?

The FRLP provides best practice training in financial management, grant administration, business planning, commercialisation and technology transfer, corporate governance, financial reporting, acquittal and audit requirements to staff at ANU who are involved with the university's research enterprise.  With these enhanced skills, you will develop a greater ability to manage both projects and staff, and improve your chances in receiving research grants.

Is this a certified ANU course?

No it is not a certified course and does not gain any formal credentials.

What is the time commitment?

Each module requires approximately 4-8 hours of study, depending on your pace and the aspects you would like to extract from each module. The workshops will run between 2-4 hours, and will be noted in the workshop description.

Do I need to do the whole program all at once, and in order?

Although it is advantageous to complete all modules consecutively as it makes the program more fluid, you are free to pick modules that are of interest to you or take the modules in any order. However, with busy career researchers in mind, the program has been designed to work with the schedules of staff members who have many commitments. Feel free to work through the whole program at a flexible and convenient pace. This flexibility allows you to take the modules in any order convenient to you. If you are new to a role at ANU, the Settling In module is designed to provide you with essential background information specific to ANU, and would therefore be the best starting point.

Who can participate in FRLP?

The FRLP is available to any researcher at ANU.  It is especially useful to those who are currently lead researchers, managers of the grant and funds process, or who are hoping to become a lead researcher on a project. The Go8 target audience is for level Bs and above.  However other researchers and those involved with the University's research enterprise will find some of the module content useful.  This includes PhD students, and this program may benefit those PhD students in their final year or who have submitted their thesis for review.  To help us ensure we reach the right target group, and so that we can maximise the learning experience for participants, you will be asked for some background information the first time you enrol in a module.

How do I access the on-line component?

The online content is password protected. Please follow the instructions to access the online material.

How do I register?

Instructions on how to access the online modules and how to register for the workshops are provided via the menu on the left.  Once you are familiar with these instructions you can register via the menu on the left.  Please note that you have to register first before being given access to the online modules or the workshops.
