ANU Future Research Leaders Program

The Australian National University is recognised as the most research-intensive university in Australia and among the world's best. To help support our researchers, ANU collaborated with the Group of Eight Universities (Go8) in the development of the Future Research Leaders Program (FRLP).

The program is designed to enhance skills and knowledge in all aspects of research leadership and management.  A redesigned FRLP was offered in 2011 to provide the widest uptake of foundations skills and knowledge by all those involved with the research enterprise at ANU.

Feedback from FRLP participants:

"I've found them to be great resources for learning and understanding what is involved in being a researcher at the ANU"

FRLP Update

** FRLP will no longer be offered until further notice **

The 2011 FRLP program at ANU consisted of two components:

Online modules

Nine foundation topics have been developed and available online to any ANU researcher, research student and research management staff.  Each module provides background information, tools and reference materials.

These online modules are self-paced and can be taken at any time throughout the academic year.  They can also be taken in any order depending on one's needs and interests during the research journey.

These resources can also serve as ongoing reference materials throughout one's research development career.

A list of online module topics is provided in the menu on the left.

Workshops

During 2011 a variety of face-to-face workshops were offered aimed at expanding the learnings from the online modules, while also exploring new areas of interest as well as the interlinking of information in several online modules.  Workshops were designed to provide an opportunity for researchers to learn from and pose questions to research and administrative leaders at ANU, including those who are known for their holistic and innovative approaches to the research enterprise.

Three workshop formats were explored in 2011:

  • "Research Q&A" Forums
  • Skills Workshops
  • Master Classes

A description of each of these workshop formats and a list of 2011 workshops is provided in the menu on the left.

FRLP components are open to all research students and staff at ANU.  The materials covered in some modules and workshops will be more suitable for researchers and managers at different stages of their career.  The recommended target audience will be listed against each FRLP online module and workshop.  Some workshops will target a specific cohort of ANU researchers (and noted in advertisements). There is no cost involved to access or attend the program.

FRLP is a program under the portfolio of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Research Training), and managed by the Division of Research Support (previously Central Research Office).

For further information on FRLP, online modules and workshops on offer, and registration for these items select the relevant heading in the menu on the left.

If FRLP or another version of the program is planned for future years, it will be announced through the Research Services Division website.
